Saw these just recently (and a second, 'Sith' one)...had seen them online, but not in real life - they are aimed at kids, but are actually quite cool little reference books (if just a shade more lightweight than the other DK reference offerings).Buzz Bumble wrote:I found another new Dorling Kindersley book in some Whitcoulls branches today: The Secret Life of Droids ($20.99, hard back). As usual with DK books, it has great pictures, but is aimed more at kids and is a bit light on real information (although does have some interesting snippets bits to read).

Yep, Beware the Sith. I posted that one about three weeks ago.
They are good books with great images and some good snippets of information, but being aimed at kids, they are a bit simplistic and suffer from short paragraphs lacking much detail for the hard core / adult Star Wars fan.
According the list of past and near future kids' Star Wars books I was given late last year, there are four books in the series (so far, the list does have any more) with the first two released a year ago, but I don't recall seeing those in shops here. Here's the blurbs:

Re: Books: Latest Finds / Store Reports
It looks like Whitcoulls may be getting back on track. They got those new Dorling Kindersley kids books, and today I found a few paperback copies of Star Wars: Red Harvest in the ex-Borders branch in Albany (Auckland) ... even better it was only $19.99 rather than the $25 previous paperbacks have been. (There werre no copies in the older Whitcoulls Albany branch.)
Star Wars: Red Harvest (Paperback, $19.99)
by Joe Schrieber
255 pages
+ 14 pages excerpt from "Star Wars: Scourge"
+ 17 page "State of the Galaxy" (reminders of the characters and situation in the Fate of the Jedi series)
+ 12 pages excerpt from "Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi - Outcast"

Re: Books: Latest Finds / Store Reports
Managed to score this bad boy yesterday:
Was on my way to Retrospace and stopped in at a local second hand bookstore for a quick nosy. $65 later...
Also, I was strolling up Queen St yesterday and they had a small Whitcoulls Clearance store open with a few of the Legacy of the Force books for $5 each.

Re: Books: Latest Finds / Store Reports
While looking for new items today, I found a new book at both branches of Whitcoulls in Albany (North Shore, Auckland). Star Wars Folded Flyers published by Klutz and priced at $25 in the Kids' Colouring / Activity Books section. The book contains printed pages that can be cut-out and folded, and in some cases glued, to make 30 different paper starfighters which look like they can by thrown to "fly" like a paper airplane. The book also contains a few other small bits of text like "information from pilots".

Re: Books: Latest Finds / Store Reports
Dymocks in Newmarket (Auckland) have got one copy of the new 2012 version of Star Wars: The Ultimate Visual Guide from Dorling Kindersley, priced at $45. It's been updated with a few new bits of information (I'm not sure what, but I did see a brief paragraph about the recently released Fighter Pods) and has a red-and-black Vader's mask cover design.

Re: Books: Latest Finds / Store Reports
The latest Whitcoulls junk mail catalogue is advertising the cartoon book Darth Vader & Son (which MattG posted about here):
Darth Vader & Son
Jeffrey Brown
Darth Vader is a Dad like any other - sharing life lessons with Luke, with that special bond between father and son. Touching - and simply hilarious!
$24.99

Re: Books: Latest Finds / Store Reports
An advert in yesterday's NZ Herald (Canvas magazine section) for the Living & Giving stores says they also have the Darth Vader & Son book, but priced $3 more at $27.99 in their Auckland, Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch and online stores.
