Name Change

Post by RedScooterT »

Would/Has anyone of you considered having their name legally changed to a name in SW?

just a thought that occurred to me after reading about this man who had his name changed to Captain Awesome:

You'd have to be an utter looney to do that (try applying for a job with such names!) ... but there are plenty of loonies who have changed their names to Star Wars ones, and worse. About the only thing you can say is that it's at least easier to change it back again than it is to remove a prominent tattoo that you later regret.

Here's another one for you: this twit reportedly changed his name to Buzz Lightyear.
Or the list of Wackiest Names of 2005 (although this one is from The Sun ragpaper, including "Jellyfish McSavelo", "Hayley Comet", and "Solar Fruitbat Samba".

Or the list from the UK Deed Poll office for 2008, including "Aron Mufasa Columbo Fonzerelli Ball In A Cup Boogie Woogie Brown", "Luscious Lemons" and "N'Tom TheHayemaker Haywardyouliketocomebacktomine".

To bring it marginally back to Star Wars, the Restricitons page of the American Deed Poll office says they have issued Deed Polls for fun names such as Darth Vader, Billy BigBum, Mickey Mouse, Father Christmas, Lord Voldemort, Elvis Presley, Elton John and Marilyn Monroe. (There's apparently no law against changing your anem to someone else's name, as long as you're not using it deceptively.)

As well as a couple of Darth Vaders, I vaguely recall reading about a Luke Skywalker and others.

Plus of course the parents-who-should-be-shot who saddle their kids with awful names right from the start, and it's not just celebrities.
