Georgie Pie is back!
In today's NZ Herald (10 May), McDonalds has announced that they're bring back the Georgie Pie brand, at least as pies, but not branches ... unfortunately the pies are massively over-priced at $4.50 each (compared to about $2.50 at the local bakery and under $2 at supermarkets), so I doubt it will stay for long, and then McDonald's will claim nobody really wanted them.

Re: Georgie Pie is back!
The 'Jesters' pie stores have their pies priced at $4.60/$4.90, so there is some market for them. The two branches near us have been open for years. Comparable to cheap burger costs these days I guess. Will be interesting to see how well the introduction goes.

There are definitely fools out there willing to pay silly prices for things. You just have to look at the business the cafes and mall Muffin Break-type places do with their over-priced cakes, etc. ... you can easily get pies, rolls, cakes, etc. from a local bakery or supermaket at least half the price. Then there's the over-priced coffees, the over-priced Subway, etc.
The added problem with this lacklustre attempt to bring Georgie Pie back is that at the moment it's only two Auckland braches of McDonalds that will be selling them and there's only one variety (mince and cheese). A few other branches in Auckland and Hamilton will supposedly join in later and other branches and varieties might be added if it's successful.
The cheap burgers are pretty pitiful. The proper ones are of course also over-priced.
