The Force Awakens Party at the Roxy, Wellington

Post by Reverend Strone »

If you're in Wellington, come join us at the Roxy Cinema in Miramar, Wellington, on Wednesday night, Dec 16th and celebrate the imminent release of The Force Awakens!

The fun kicks off at 9pm with competitions, trivia, Battlefront running on a projector, as well as SW themed cocktails and food. Legendary Matte Painter Michael Pangrazio will be giving a presentation about his work on ESB and ROTJ, and a number of us will be there in costume (thanks Phil), trooping it up. We'll have a full size TFA Stormtrooper available for selfies, and a number of us are lending pieces from our toy, memorabilia and costume collections that will be on display in cases for the length of the film's run.

Then of course at 12.01am the movie debuts! It is my understanding the screenings are sold out already, but you don't need a ticket to the film to come join the party. I hope to see some of my fellow SWNZers in attendance. :)

I so want to get a first order stormtrooper helmet and a Darth Vader helmet from Anovos :)
I would hate to think how much they would be
We might find out in due time, hopefully I'll have enough copper stripped to pay for one of them, maybe :?

Thanks man. It was a fun night, thanks to the awesome efforts and attitudes of all involved. Special thank you from me to Tarragon, without which much of it wouldn't have happened. Thanks, Phil!

Michael Pangrazio was awesome. He gave a wonderful presentation about his time on Empire and Jedi, with some lovely memories of learning his trade from Ralph McQuarrie. It was an enchanting talk. :)

Here's a nice little video from Stuff.co.nz that includes some shots of the collection displays we put together for the Roxy. They will remain at the cinema for folks to enjoy for the duration of the film's stay in theaters.

My collection generally resides in totes, pending the completion of long in the works dioramas, so having some of my toys properly displayed at the Roxy Cinema to celebrate TFA has presented me with the chance to snap some pictures of them enjoying some limelight. It has been great unboxing my Astro Droids, in particular, and setting them up together on a tiered display stand. What follows is some photography from the exhibit. I was limited in my lighting options so the whites and pale colours on the droids are a bit over-exposed - apologies. The collection includes official releases as well as some of my customs. Even with as many as are in here, I had to leave roughly twenty droids out due to lack of space! Yikes, I have bought a lot of these little fellas over the years!
