To me, this announcement changes nothing - expanded universe has always been non-canon (the costume clubs have used this as a category for a long time). The films (and tv series) have always had the freedom to over-write any existing expanded universe (Clone Wars changed Mandalorians etc). It happened before Disney came along, it's just a reminder to fans that the films won't be shackled by trying to fit around the events of the books etc - I'm glad to see Chewbacca's still around :)

Doesn't change my love of expanded universe characters and stories, glad to see the start of older books getting re-released for new fans to read :)
