Any interest in NZ made tk boots?

Post by oota goota »

Hey all I'm visiting a costume-prop making studio in wellington next week and while I'm there I'm going to ask them about making stormtrooper boots (they make boots) see if they are interested, what kind of price/ materials they could use.

So if anyone's potentially interested in locally made boots can you let me know? I'd like to get a sense of how big a run we could do.

If anyone has any useful info about tk boots that I could take to them that would help too!

Hey Jon - I have no doubt that there is a significant market for these.

There are a few key features that should be kept in mind in case people are using them for 501st approval, or Tier 3 approval. "Chelsea" style is good, "Mariachi" is not. Seams should be avoided on the front in order to use them for Tier 3 approval.
Boots
For 501st approval:
Boots are above ankle height and made of white leather or leather-like material.
Small U-shaped elastic sections on both sides of the ankle.
Flat sole with a short heel.
No buckles or laces.
Jodhpur/ Chelsea-type boots or an equivalent style is acceptable.
Elvis or Mariachi boots are not allowed.

For level three certification (if applicable):
There shall be no seam on the front of the boot.

Thanks MG that's perfect. It was funny as we were just talking about finding a local boot maker!

Yeah man, itd make doing a Sandy, Zombie or Commander easier if there were more boots around :)

Oh and great for replacements after those long troops or even just for display.

Cheers

Cool Hads! Just sorting out how this sits within the 501st and then we'll see how things go. My feeling is that the boots will probably be more expensive than overseas but turn around will be faster and there's no shipping. I'll report back next Wednesday :)

Would women's sizes be possible? I'm a US womens 6 which is approx a US mens 4 - which generally isn't made, so I can't use mens shoe options (had custom jedi boots made to fit my feet).
