There are also prototypes for "printing" food using varioud edible "inks" and even spare body parts like human ears, hearts, etc. using stem-cell-based "inks". It's basically the start of on-demand manufacturing and even the beginnings for a real Star Trek replicator.

Once the speed of the printers becomes more usable, it will no doubt eventually see the end to many huge manufacturing companies and retailers - want a new hinge for your cupboard, just download the plan from the engineering company that designed it (the cost would be neglible, like mobile phone apps today) and print one yourself.

yeah or replacement parts for cars and other machines. Exciting and terrifying all at the same time!

This will be quite the build once you really get going.
Pictures, pictures we need more pictures :)
The shed mag also has a 3d printer you can build for $1500.00, good value for this kind of build.

Well, been a while, but got these done this week, the 2 quad gun turret bases.
These are a laminate of clear acrylic, with a styrene top. The whole turret was done on a milling machine. The hole just behind the mounting point was used as an anchor to hold to the milling machine table, it will be covered by the detailing anyhoo!.The original ILM turrets were 2 sheets of plywood & covered in styrene, with another 'ring' of very thin styrene around the edge circumference.

Now comes the fun part of adding all the separate armour plates & the kit donor parts, yeeha! :D

Really looking forward to the finished product.
I will start saving to buy it when it is completed. :rotfl:

Hi guys!. Well yeah, it's been a while since I posted here, but work has continued on the Falcon miniature replica & the fun bit now is the detailing. Armor plating is fun, hundreds of the little notches to cut out & more styrene chipping & adding all the original kit parts that have been collected for too many years!.
I can post more pics if wanted.

Gasp!

Keep posting pics! Looks fantastic. And I actually kinda like the black and white, raw material paint scheme.
