Progress on my storm trooper helmet today. Final coat of paint went on and started assembling the helmet as well. I need to find smaller bolts for the ears and I'm likely going to tighten the ears more or fill somebody that gap where the ears meet the helmet as I don't like such a huge gap.
Any tips and thoughts guys?

Re: Slyclone's various builds thread
Hey Sly I would try an engineering supply place for flathead bolts they have heaps. Tightening the ear will pull them in closer to the side of the helmet. Sometimes the order in which you tighten the bolts determines the position of the ears so you might want to play around a bit.
the other option is to do a little bit more trimming You've got enough thickness in the ears that you reduce them more without risking the piece.
PM me if you get stuck for bolts

Re: Slyclone's various builds thread
Was thinking about the local engineering place last night, will give them a shot on Monday. Seems the offical size is 3.5mm by 25mm for slotted countersink brass machine screws. Will be trying to get them.oota goota wrote:Hey Sly I would try an engineering supply place for flathead bolts they have heaps. Tightening the ear will pull them in closer to the side of the helmet. Will try some different order of tightening the ears but as you pointed out I may need to trim them too.

Re: Slyclone's various builds thread
So started with the decals today. Just the tube stripes for now as still need to get the grey paint for the other pieces. Also got some countersunk machine screws and replaced the horrible screws I'd used temporarily. Will need to paint them shortly too. Slowly but surely coming along.

Started on the part that I've been dreading for some time. Hand painting! Laid down a thin first coat for a start and will do some more in the next couple of days to slowly build up the layers.

Re: Slyclone's various builds thread
Evening all,
Spent the arvo working on ARF v2. Did some of the finer bondo work on edges etc and then started drawing in the raised details. Been slowly adding thin layers of bondo and getting it as square as I can. Coming along nicely I think.

Second coat of grey laid down. Looking a lot better and more filled in. Will likely do one more coat and then onto the chin.

Thoughts on vocoder? Not rounded enough? Sides too low?

Re: Slyclone's various builds thread
Spent some time this evening working on the raised details on the side of the face and neck ring. Got a little creative and used some cut up ice cream container and masking tape to allow me to fill the shape to a good height with a reasonable straight edge.

Re: Slyclone's various builds thread
Did some more painting last night on the helmet and added decals today. Need to do some minor paint touch ups as decals are larger than I expected and also clear coat it.
