A little while ago I connected a turntable up to the input of my laptop, and recorded the full output of the vinyl LP. Here's an MP3 copy if anyone wants to listen to it in all its glorious vintage audio quality: https://www.dropbox.com/s/r3owjotxsibjb ... s.mp3?dl=0badges2nz wrote:...I don't know where my one went to, would be nice to try and get another just for the keep sakeness of the item, probably be expensive now for one of these...

Re: Midnight Madness Memories
I've always had a memory of seeing Star Wars at the St James, and seeing queues down to the ASB on the corner, but I've since been told I was mistaken. I do remember a sweet Micronaughts display wherever it was screening.
I definitely saw ESB in the Civic, and Jedi in the Tudor Takapuna. It always strikes me as odd that my memory of seeing SW seems so much longer ago than my memory of seeing ESB, even though they were only a few years apart.

Re: Midnight Madness Memories
I can relate to that...I suspect it's due to the age difference between when we saw SW vs ESB...a few years at that age made a huge difference for me to my appreciation of story, characters, context, and their combined significance, meaning everything registers a bit more strongly in the memory banks.HanSagan wrote:It always strikes me as odd that my memory of seeing SW seems so much longer ago than my memory of seeing ESB, even though they were only a few years apart.
Here are some vintage NZ Herald scans that are relevant thenHanSagan wrote:...I definitely saw ESB in the Civic, and Jedi in the Tudor Takapuna.

It is so awesome!
While the Style A one-sheet is beautiful, for me, nothing beats this image (even in black-and-white).
These are great posts, too!

Another great ESB poster (the 'Gone with the wind' version) was by Roger Kastel, who also created the Jaws posterRegarding his 1980 work on The Empire Strikes Back, Jung recalled: "I used various martial arts attitudes in my working studies, trying to come up with the perfect look. I was searching for the image 'bi-coastal' (as they used to say) of Darth Vader, which could be the centerpiece for The Empire Strikes Back. I made the presentation to Sid Ganis at Lucasfilm's new offices in North Hollywood, near Universal Studios. In the large airy reception area sitting on couches, with my presentation spread on a coffee table, we attracted a small crowd of onlookers. Steven Spielberg peered in and chimed, 'I like that' and strolled away. It was the drawing of Darth Vader in profile, a powerful outstretched arm holding his saber."

The Kastel art is the favourite of so many (for a lot of reasons), but I still prefer the Jung piece, as it’s gritty and more pulpy.
On that note, here's a great memory from my childhood, the cover from the VHS rental of Empire:
Although, I don’t need to explain that to any Kiwi kids who grew up with it, huh?
