So an idea I have had floating around in the back of my head is to build a storage / display unit based on a "Death Star Panel", much like the one behind these brave gentlemen:
I would plan on having it somewhat modular, so I can turn a part sideways to fit longer items (Lego )
My question to start is: can anyone point me in the direction of a person / company that does CNC work for small one off projects?
I can Google to my heart's content, but I prefer personal referrals - preferably in Auckland, and preferably reasonably priced (will also do cheap).
Many thanks
Sam

Re: Death star storage unit
I got these guys to CNC the MDF panels for my Han In Carbonite project. They were very patient with working out the files I had on hand.

These were the costs when I did that project back in 2010 (likely have gone up, at least matching CPI):

In terms of machining, the cost for a standard 3-Axis cut (i.e. no undercuts) per sheet is $45.00 + materials.
A sheet of 3mm will cost you $15.18 + GST and a sheet of 12mm will cost you $37.98 + GST.

What's you're overall construction plan? If you're not looking at too much complexity, have you thought about just jigsawing it? I did the Death Star set that is in our rumpus room with just a jigsaw.

I did think about a jigsaw - but I thought it would be worth checking out how much a professional job would be.
Also I suck with power tools - and have the scars to prove it.
Still working on the final design, it may have changed 3 or 4 (or 8 or 9) times so far... but it's looking good.

Can't wait to see it, what size are you working with, full size like Matt's one?
Doomsday and Armageddon got together and had a baby and man is it ugly.
