Doing mod work on some of my figures.

Asajj Ventress... Upon looking at this figure I noticed there could be some improvements done on it around the midsection, so I purchased a couple of female figure bodies to a swap over and trial, personally, the Sideshow Collectables body (her waste noticeably) just looked too skinny.
Even with the Hot Toys figure's around the legs especially, they just look too short in proportion with their top halves... Hot Toys do make some awesome head sculpts though but with that being said, Sideshow and Hot Toys figures both have their good and bad points.

Leia & Luke... Head sculpts on these Sideshow's are a bit below the average detail for my tastes so I bought some custom head sculpts

Doing the same with Sideshow 1/6 scale Obiwan and my second Sideshow 1/6 scale Anakin... I have my first Sideshow Anakin on display already in it's original state

1/6 scale Sideshow Vader... I'm going to completely strip him down and mod a few things starting with a Sideshow -> Hot Toys head swap.
I think the Sideshow helmet is a bit too small, the Kaiyodo head / helmet sculpt is by far the best looking and most screen accurate even being an old kit but rare, so with this mod, I'll be using the Hot Toys version.

First mod is lowering his helmet a few millimeters because it sits a little too high for my liking, I'll have to somehow break apart the helmet from the mask.
I'll also set the nose plug deeper inside his mask because it pokes out too far above the mouth grill, I'll then do a Sideshow Hot Toys body suit swap including a new custom cape and inner tunic set from Iforigno

Been modding a couple of 1/6 Sideshow figures, you may have seen my posts up on Facebook, but here are some more in depth photos of what I did on my SSC Darth Vader.

I managed to grab some Hot Toys spare parts off of eBay for I was looking at swapping a few things over or modding them.

I cringed at the size of the Sideshows helmet dome for it always bugged me that it looked out of scale and too small. My first mod was to break open into three pieces the Hot Toys replacement helmet, it looked a little too high above the brow, I then used my dremel to grind away the inner mounting tabs to lower the dome a few centimeters. While I had the helmet in pieces, I then added some chrome sheet to the inside of the lenses to help enhance their reddish color so they were more noticeable at certain angles and different light. One side of the the chrome sheet has adhesive and this side was to be used on the inside of each lens, using a soft cotton bud, I molded the sheet into the shape of each eye socket.

Next mod was to completely strip down and dismantle the upper torso to change out the neck pin. The Sideshows one was too small to plug into the Hot Toys socket, the pin was secured tightly so I applied my heat gun to the neck piece to help soften the area and pop it out with ease, however, the replacement neck pin, the ball end that sits into the neck and shoulders part was a tad too big so I ground it down a few centimeters so that it would pop right into position.

... to be continued...

With that complete, I now have the option to swap out neck pins and choose between the original Sideshows mask and helmet or the Hot Toys mod.

Next task was to trim up the Hot Toys two piece body suit, the Sideshows one piece body suit looks a bit flat to me so I opted to swap it out for the Hot Toys which looked fuller and more patterned.

Redress the figure in it's new suit... the Hot toys suit looks good and because of the material's thickness, it also hides a lot of the ball joints that were noticeable through the thinner Sideshows suit.

There's some noticeable differences between the Vader masks and domes, so I decided to mod the Sideshows version as well, breaking it open and also lowering the helmet a few centimeters the same as the Hot Toys mod, in comparison, the size between each helmet can be clearly seen.

Hot Toys on the left, Sideshows on the right.

I wasn't done modding though, I tried a complete helmet swap, Hot Toys dome on the Sideshows head mask which looks pretty convincing and doesn't look too bad... here's the comparison.

Started another mod, I converted my Jedi Order Anakin to a Sith version.

Firstly, I completely stripped him down and and made a few adjustments to the joints... some were jammed tight so I loosened them a tiny bit for ease of posing. I then redressed him in a black outfit of which I used Rit liquid dye to darken a couple of pieces of his clothing, his outer tunic, tabards and sash which had faded.

I had a spare couple of cotton tabards so I used one as an inner tunic but only wrapping it around him like a scarf then used some black duct tape to secure it to his back... I chose to do this to eliminate the bulkiness in the upper torso, chest and shoulders which was noticeable when dressed in his original set, he just looked too puffy with the full gear on.

then the inner tabards...

I replaced the original pleather tabards for they also made him puffy like and just looked too shiny, I used some thin satin like leather ribbon about 10 centimeters in width, the same width as the inner tabards which I thought looked liked the perfect replacement once dressed and at this point, I also added the sash.

Started the repaint on my 1/6 Sideshow Anakin head sculpt.

The head although already a custom one was still not up to my standards so I thought to completely repaint the face.
I started off using thinner to clean the head sculpt of any foreign oils and gunk then applied the use of Mungyo pastels with water to mix instead of the traditional enamels/acrylic paints and thinners.

I added some detail, melted some thin plastic rod to create random strands of loose hair and used a thin cement to attach to the head sculpt.

I found the pastel blended smoothly between layers and was very easy to achieve the tones I wanted, the only thing was, I had to apply multiple thin layers to build up a solid base.

I did however use a minimal amount of acrylic paint (a small drop) mixed with pastel for sharp details.
