There's a "massive" book sale in Birkenhead (Auckland, at 231 Hinemoa Street, opposite the Library) - in reality there's not really much there at all, but they do have a few paperback copies of Darth Bane: Rule of Two and Clone Wars - Gambit: Siege priced at $7 each.

According to a follow-up article in yesterday's NZ Herald, the Book Depository hold-up has been solved. Depending on which of the "pass the buck" companies you want to believe, a pile of 12,000 books was "found" at Auckland / London airport and is now being delivered by NZ Post. One of my five books arrived today - it would be better if Book Depository gave the option of shipping everything as one order rather than separate ones though.

Wow! Interesting situation.

It's New Zealand Book Month again (1 - 31 March) and you can download and print a $5 off voucher from the nzbookmonth.co.nz website to use when buying any book priced $10 or more at your local bookshop (not online ones unfortunately) ... of course, actually finding a Star Wars book in any New Zealand bookshop is impossible unless you want a Dorling Kindersley title or one of the now-ancient novels. :(

I'm not sure it really counts as "literature", but the book section of the latest junk mail catalogue from The Warehouse is advertising an Angry Birds Star Wars Ultimate Sticker Collection (1000 stickers) book priced at $21.99.

You could use the above NZ Book Month coupon and buy the sticker book for $15.99 and then also get an entry into The Warehouse competition to win $1,000 worth of petrol vouchers (competition closes 19 March, 2013).

Whitcoulls has a new Dorling Kindersley book ...
  • The Clone Wars Episode Guide ($26.99)
    "All 108 episodes of series 1 - 5"
    Hard back, 231 pages
The episodes are listed in chronological order of the story, rather than the order the episodes were made or broadcast, which could be handy. Each episode has a double-page spread ... but as usual with the DK guides, it has great images, but very little text (although I did read a snippet about one of the characters being named after Horatio Caine from CSI Miami).

Sorry, I bought the only copy at the branch in Glenfield (Auckland).

Whitcoulls has some new Angry Birds Star Wars story books. I saw two different titles in the Browns Bay branch yesterday. They're hardback books aimed at young kids (short books with few words and big images), and priced at $13.99 each.

A few new books found at PaperPlus in today's travels:
  • Lego Star Wars Brickmaster: The Battle for the Stolen Crystals, $49.99 (also at Whitcoulls priced at $50.99)
  • Lego Star Wars: The Yoda Chronicles, $37.00
  • Complete Vehicles, $70.00 - this is an updated version of the Vehicles Cross-section book, with "four nre cross-sections"
Possibly a new "Ultimate Sticker" books as well (Clone Wars Battles), but I've lost track of those releases.

In todays' travels I found a Star Wars Annual 2014 at the ex-Borders branch of Whitcoulls in Albany (Auckland). It's priced at $21.99 and is the usual British kids' Annual type of book - puzzles, "fact file" pages, cut-out bits, and also simplified kids' picture stories of the Prequel Trilogy.

The back of the book advertises various other Annuals, including a Clone Wars version, but there was no others at Whitcoulls.

Just in case anyone here is interested, BookDepository.co.uk has the William Shakespeare's Star Wars (paperback) currently on sale at 32% off ... but if you use the discount code FICTION during the checkout process, you'll get a further 10% off, making it NZ$14.30 (instead of $23.70, offer ends 12:00 midnight GMT, 27 March, 2014).
