Star Wars Commander (iPad)

Post by MattG »

A new strategy game is out on the iPad, it would seem. A couple of cool scenes are in the trailer.

So Ive been jamming on it all weekend and I have to say despite its mobile gaming roots a, its pretty rad!

Its just like a stripped down planet based Empire at War - resource gathering, building, base defense etc with a simplified attack structure as all units are AI controlled once youve placed them. The art style has taken a cartoony Clone Wars style approach which suits it very well.

The only thing I didnt like was the in game microstransactions but thats the name of the game for mobile gaming and if it means I can play for free then I can dig it.

For a free game its definitely worth checking out!

Cheers

I don't like a couple of things, like how the rebel forces are just a re-used republic weapons (and CIS) and as stated its just a mobile empire at war.. but i'm a PC gamer and i don't even own a mobile phone so i dislike all mobile games :D

We do really need a new starwars RTS game though, Empire at war is aging while mods keep it alive we need larger maps which computers these days can handle.

Been playing this for the past few days. Quite fun. Patience is needed if you don't want to spend $. The AI sucks a bit as well. My squad of stormtroopers start targeting a building for destruction, get set upon by a hoard of rebels but they keep shooting building !!!!!....and get gunned down as a result.

Still is free... :)
