SW 'Bootleg' Collections?

Post by AaronDB94 »

I've decided to make an effort to start up a bit of a SW bootleg figure collection....has anybody else managed to track down any of these figures or had an interest to??? I'm not meaning the illegal copies that are so good they're hard to tell them apart from the real deal I'm talking about the real cheesey stuff haha

We're off to China at the end of the year and I've been told it's a SW bootleggers paradise so I can't wait to get there

Not exactly a bootleg figure, but I once saw a plastic racing car packaged on an Episode 1 backing card - in a supermarket here in NZ. It made no sense! There were quite a few on the rack too.

I do vaguely remember reading about some official Star Wars themed NASCAR racing cars, but I can't recall if they were real, toys or both ... but those would make more sense than the silly speed-things and the flying Falcon with a giant propeller-hole in the middle they're trying to sell now!

Just get the official Hasbro figures that used left-over wrestling figure bodies. They were awful! :(

If you want real cheesy items (not just figures) you should look at some of the legally licensed stuff Japan produces.

I have some of those already haha....I don't mind then because the different versions of the figures show how the toy market was going in that point in time.

I was sorting through some old photos, and found some pics of old bootleg figures I used to have (sold them a long time ago though). I bought them for a couple of dollars each at a random 'dollar store'/importer...they were hand-painted, solid cast figures (articulated arms/head, but legs were one piece with the body), all on cards that had Darth Maul on the front, and Padme Amidala details on the back. They came with non-functioning voice chips :D

Check on trademe, the member jeffg is selling a Turkish bootleg copy of the ESB Snowtooper, on a bootleg card, he wants $100 for it though, buggered if I'd pay that for a bootleg but they don't interest me, might be some thing you'd like? Cheers

I just received a 6 pack of bootleg 6" Figures.
I was curious and wanted to check the quality.
The Red guard was what caught my attention.
This Red guard sculpt looks like the figures that ARTFX have released.

Here is an image comparing the the height. The red guard is quite tall. I really like it.
Black Trooper is also a bootleg.

The Storm Trooper Commander is the genuine piece.
