I took in a midnight screening at St Lukes VMAX ... not as fancy as IMAX of course but still a nice big screen.

It's kind of a mess in a lot of ways structurally, but was still a ton of fun overall, especially the crazy Palpatine stuff. The Leia scenes were a little wonky at times but considering the challenge I thought they fit surprisingly well, and it was sweet to get the whole gang together for most of the first half of the film too.

Seeing it again on Saturday.

I thought the first twenty minutes or so felt kind of like an extended trailer than the start of the film but as it went on I started liking it more and more.

I found quite a few of Leias scenes awkward because of they way she spoke....it didn't seem to fit the tone of the conversation and felt out of place but I am glad she was there. Rose needed to be a much bigger part, especially with Finn. They spent so much time together in Episode XIII that it was weird to see them apart.

I'm honestly confused by some of the negative comment's Ive read regarding TROS though....its not the train wreck some people are trying to make it out to be, at least to me anyway, I really enjoyed it.

I've had quite a few messages from people who hated the fact that Leia had a medal exactly the same as the one Luke and Han received at the battle of Yavin and that it ended up with Chewbacca.....I never thought it was just the same but was the actual medal Han was given and that Leia wanted Chewy to have it, to me it was a cool scene and a good way for Chewy to have something of Hans.

I'm not trying to say the movie was perfect, Force Ghost Luke catching the light saber was a big WTF moment for me lol, its just I'd rather enjoy all the positive things I liked rather than focus on the negative things.....no movies perfect.

First viewing and I'm torn.

I liked Ben's redemption and felt that was done well and fitted in with the overall theme of redemption seen in many of the films in the saga.

It was good to see Leia had Jedi training which helps explain her episode 8 superman.

I was a bit confused by the new force powers to pull things out of thin air and across space.

I didn't like how much of the film borrowed from episode 6 and it felt too copied in parts. I also felt the kiss between Rey and Kylp seemed quite out of place with all of their interactions during the film.

Overall I liked a lot of it, but also am quite disappointed with other parts. Not sure how I feel overall at this stage. More viewings are clearly needed.

The Knights of Ren were a bit of a let down for me, it seemed like before the film was released they were building them up to be something special but like Phasma before them they didn't really do much of anything before being killed.

So much of the film was at such a fast pace it was really hard to take in a lot of what was happening. I realise JJ was trying to get an emotional response from the audience when Chewy 'died' but he was shown to be alive so soon after that it fell flat.

Smoke being a clone was also not really addressed, except for the Snokes floating around a tank, why did Palpatine go through all the hassle to make clones when he could have easily picked anyone to be his puppet....It looked like they were just trying to explain his death in The Last Jedi but again it just seemed like an after thought.

I can think of so many things I enjoyed about the film but just wish JJ had heard of the saying 'less is more'. To me it felt like he just tried to film the screen with as much action as possible to distract the audience from the actual plot.

I think they were trying to convey that the characters thought he was dead, rather than make the audience think he was dead, as they clearly established for us that there were two transports just before that scene, whereas Rey was only aware that there was one.

I didn't get that feeling at all, I thought it was to stir a response from the audience just as much to have the characters think he was dead.....the sighs that came from the people in the screening I was in made me think I wasn't the only one lol

Surely they would have detected a second transport so close to the first one, Rey could have sensed Chewy wasn't aboard the one that exploded like she did later on in the film when she sensed he was alive.

I've seen in a few interviews where JJ isn't to pleased with people suggesting TROS took a lot of story points from ROTJ, I think it's pretty undeniable that the two share similar arcs.

I see he was smart enough though not to copy Richard Marquand and voice a droid in TROS.....oh hold on hahahaha

Well, I liked it.

I hated TLJ... not really because of Luke (although tossing the sabre was unforgivable) but because it was a long, slow car chase with a stop along the way to free space horses at a casino. Oh, and Holdo could've just told Poe what was going on and solved everything.

As for TRoS, it was fun. I mean, did I get my $15 worth? Yep. I don't really consider this "trilogy" canon, so the Palpatine stuff doesn't bother me. There's OT, then there's DT (Disney trilogy)... two completely different things. JJ did what he could top retcon TLJ. I loved the line about "Jedi's don't disrespect a light sabre" or words to that effect.

Palpatine being the puppet master really does solve a lot of issues with the previous films (Rey's Mary Sue-ishness, Snoke, where did the First Order come from)... apart from the fact that he clearly died in RoTJ.

Less Rose (I like the character, I hate the forced romance with Finn), no Holdo Maneuver, Luke acted like a master. These are all good things.

Also, if Jedi Ghosts can sit on rocks then they can manipulate the physical environment. I guess.

I'll happily buy this bluray (TLJ will never, ever enter my home).

Though I'd love to have seen Hayden Christensen appear in TROS as Anakins force ghost and think Rose needed a way bigger part in the film I'm still against #releasethejjcut that is going around at the moment.

Disney released the film they wanted to and, unfortunately for some fans, they own Star Wars not Mr. Abrams.....with all the negative aspects that came out regarding a lot of Disneys other Star Wars projects I think releasing two Episode IX's would just cause so much more.

Was Episode IX everything I wanted it to be, well no but to me I'd rather just enjoy the parts I liked.
