Hi I thought I would share my new project.
I am new at this and have made the jump to get into it.
I used
1x Army Painter - Gun Metal Primer
1x Bumper Coating - Flat Black
1x High Gloss Paint
1x Buliders Fill Putty
Equipment:
Putty Knife
Screw Driver
Lots of sand paper
Mini Hand Drill
Rotary Tool
Making many novice mistakes as I get along.
Interesting fact 1# Putty dries very quickly and it get very hot in the process.
You have to mix in the hardening liquid and it sets like cement.
Interesting fact 2# Power tools is a shortcut, but nothing beat manual sanding.
I tried to cheat with the rotary too and ended up with deep cuts into the plastic.
The job would have been easier with a piece of sand paper.
Interesting Fact 3# Always sand and smooth before you paint. I have had to strip and repaint at least 3 times.
The paint just will not bond to the plastic. The orange bits were a pain.

- There are screw on the piece , put even after I unscrewed them the piece was still bonded together. I biy of brute force and a putty knife I manage to split it open.

- I could see that the Rubie's Rebels blaster has only has indentations where the barrel holes should be. I decided to drill these and put on a barrel to give it a more realistic view.

- I used a clear plastic tube. Painted it with two layers of Gun Metal. Fits like a glove.

- I sanded the piece, applied the Gun metal primer. Sanded it again and then coat it wth a layer of flat black.

Re: Edward26 E11 Blaster
After many sessions sanding, priming and then sanding again.
I am ready to move to stage 2. filling the cavity and putting the blaster back together.
The blaster don't exactly fit perfectly. The were many places where it did not align.
I will have to deal with this after.
Using the clamps, Yeah I have a lot of them.
First time using them too, I bought them over the years cause I though I would use them.
Then lot of epoxy to filling the gaps.

- The piece weight just 300g, I added 250g worth of Nuts and bolts inside the cavity.
I estimate with the putty the total weight sound be at leat 700G. - scales.jpg (727.94 KiB) Viewed 7255 times

Re: Edward26 E11 Blaster
Awesome. Following this thread.
I have three of these bad boys. The first will be my practise and learning model, then the 2nd and 3rd will be an ANH and an ESB E-11, if that's do-able.
I've seen some nice builds one these, from quick 'n' dirty to quite involved and rather amazing at the end. Can't wait to see how yours turns out.

Re: Edward26 E11 Blaster
For a quick win, can I recommend sanding the top of the T-tracks flat? That big curve they have is based on the Rebels tv series blaster, and not found in the original E-11's
Top track is trickier though, as it has a gap in it.

I see in the back ground of one of your pics you have the book of Star wars costumes, what is that one like?
Doomsday and Armageddon got together and had a baby and man is it ugly.
