Hey all now there's been a lot of pics and a few figures of the first order trooper armour what are people's impressions of it? A logical extension of the OT armour? Some people have said the ep 3 clone armour would make a good successor to the OT armour.
I know this topic has been thrashed a bit elsewhere but I'm keen to know what SWNZers think

I don't think its too bad, might be nice to have a set if it was possible.
I could be the guinea pig if it was ever tried out
Doomsday and Armageddon got together and had a baby and man is it ugly.

My impressions so far is that they look thicker and heavier, as if they've all put on a few pounds.
And I do struggle with the duck trooper helmet. I'm sure it will grow on me.
The fire trooper and flame trooper look pretty badass though

ha ha yeah that's the trouble with someone like me asking this question I don't really have an ulterior motive. I'm just curious. I HAVE thought about tackling the suit. It's a mountain of work and research and prototyping. Thanks for offer of guinea pigness.badges2nz wrote: Why? are you thinking of making a set

I'm personally not particularly in love with the suit. I like some of the aspects...but....spats? really? They were falling off even in the first trailer.
Not sure about those shoulder bells either, great place to get shot

Re: First Order Stormtrooper armour - impressions?
I wasn't immediately sold on their design, but they've certainly grown on me. Particularly when you see them moving in vid clips. Not quite the same level of connection as the ANH version, but a new and different relationship I quite like the heavy weapons variant with the tactical rigging...it makes sense to me that some specialised troops or missions would require additional tactical equipment, ordnance, and/or ammunition.
Similarly the Flametroopers and Snowtroopers took a second or two to fully appreciate, but there are aspects of their design that I like even more than the standard grunt.

Perhaps being a little younger (and not 'growing up' with the OT), I don't have quite the strong nostalgic connection to the classic troopers that others do - I loved the new look troopers right away. It was really exciting seeing the armour in person at Celebration (both on display and the Anovos suits worn by some of the 501st) - I'm really looking forward to seeing them in action on screen!

agreed they definitely look more tactical, less space fantasy more science fiction I guess. I'm looking forward to seeing how they move on screen

Re: First Order Stormtrooper armour - impressions?
Set aside the duck jokes (to be fair the originals had the look too )
I think it's a great update on the classic TK look and I think it's gonna look awesome up on the silver screen just as it did when I got to see them up close and in the "flesh" at CVII
Me and Robo pretty much stalked every TFA Trooper that passed us and we took waaaaay too many pictures
Here's a few including me in Jon's Oota Goota #15 for comparrison
