Looking good so far!!

Like the metal undercoat - very nice indeed!!!... it does effect the top coat, will make for a nice "metal" finish.

Did you paint the handle - or did it come that way?

Yeah the handle come like that - I'll probably leave it til last as it looks pretty good as is but I might lighten it up a bit .

Hey guys,

While waiting for my ebony rub n buff to show up I decided to weather my scope mount and paint the grill :)

I applied some masking fluid to the mount bar, knobs, and bracket - as well as masking off the rest of the receiver:

Hit it with all with some black acrylic:

Removed the masking fluid and voila:

I probably overdid the masking fluid because it's not quite as accurate as I wanted BUT I think it came out really well with a good used world feel.

The knobs that come with the doopydoos kit are a little too big, but not particularly noticeable without reference beside it. I also cut off the hammer knob hangover from the denix base - I only just realised it was there after looking at it for so long.

I'm gonna experiment with the rub n buff to see how thin I can get it and if it'll even work at all. I'm really happy with the light coats of acrylic I used on the scope mount so I know I've got that to fall back on if the rub n buff doesn't work for me.

Cheers

Hey guys,

Started applying the rub n buff tonight - goes on nice n thin and is working out well:

Gotta do some more research on the flash hider & scope to figure out the best applications for them - want a worn flat black look for the flash hider & a glossy scope. Judging by how the bull barrel looks I'm thinking rub n buff for the scope - any thoughts?

Cheers

Hey guys,

So after looking at some more more reference pics I went for a more dulled battle worn flash hider:

Image

I hit it with some black acrylic washes, wiped it off with a paper towel & repeated a few more times with more stippling with each successive wipe.

Image

I'm really happy with how it came out, I added a few more thicker hits of black acrylic for scorch / blast marks.

Image

Image

I went with rub n buff for the scope & it shined up real nice with enough scratches & imperfections to add some variation & wear n tear.

Image

I used one of the knobs as a mask for the mystery disk & used a little bit of black acrylic to get a good circle - Ill drill a small hole in the centre tomorrow & clean up the edges while I'm at it.

Image

I'm gonna redo the black acrylic on the scope mount - it looks too worn compared to the rest of the blaster & needs to be toned down.

After that it's onto assembly & gluing :)

Hey guys,

Got onto the assembly tonight - glued everything together with some araldite:

Image

Drilled a small hole in the mystery hole, painted the trigger, trigger guard and the handle frame in black so that it can be handled without the rub n buff coming off.

Image

The scope came out a little crooked so Ill probably redo it tomorrow. Need to polish the scope to give it a different look from the rest of the blaster & clean everything up a bit. That just leaves the t-track & pistons to attach & then take some higher res photos :)

Cheers
