WIP oota goota OGA stormtrooper build

Post by cadium »

Hello all, just a pikky of my armour build. At the moment I'm just going for a neat trim and accurate shapes.
Blaster is a doopydoos resin item.

Anybody know where I can pick up some cheap spring clamps (for when I start glueing)?
Preferably in Christchurch?

I've picked up tons of these common ones from, at various times, Mitre10, and a local $2 Shop (or equivalent).

Any opinions on whether it is better to use the butt join or overlap methods of joining on the biceps and legs?

Just a tiny update below.
The chest button panel.
This was done using domed buttons from lincraft with the smaller buttons being pretty close to the 11mm originals and the blue buttons being larger (as some of the references I have seen seem to indicate). Painted with humbrol enamels. Also a photo of the rather less neat back.

Originally I had attached some buttons (which seemed to be resin) which (even after I sanded the smaller) seemed too large. The resin was glued on with superglue, the bond was so strong that I could not remove two of the buttons (prying with a screwdriver and with the abs about to tear apart) and I ended up grinding them off. So if you want something to stick resin to your abs, then go for superglue...incredible bond!

The chest detail looks good man. I like the butt join myself as you can add a 15 - 20mm strip over the top which is much more accurate. Some people also glue a strip in the inside of the join for extra strength, I reckon that's a good idea

What does the back of the buttons look like? I might have something that can attachment them.

Hey Fredstar, the back of the buttons have a wide tab with curved ends. They are actually held in with friction resistance and superglue and seem very secure. if I wanted more stability I could add a wire through the button hole in the tab.
By the way do you still make/sell canvas belts? If so I'll send you a pm.
